Overview of Purpose

The role of the Teaching and Learning Coordinator is to oversee good pedagogic practice in the classroom by ensuring that teachers maintain and develop good practice through access to relevant data, proper feedback and well directed professional development; and to promote the qualities of lifelong learning in students.

Areas of Responsibility

The Teaching and Learning Coordinator as part of the Secondary School Leadership Team and in leading the Pedagogic Team will work to achieve these objectives by:

? Introduce new staff to the system and its expectations.

? Overseeing a programme of professional development that links to school goals and teacher needs including feedback, improvement plans, coaching, in--‐school workshops and skill shares as well external providers and training sessions

? Collecting, analysing and acting on assessment data in ways that effectively inform teaching and positively impact learning, and with the programme coordinators helps develop curriculum improvement plans

? Providing teachers opportunities to remain current with content and pedagogy in their areas of academic responsibility, and maintain a high level of preparation to foster students’ engagement in their learning

? Working with the programme coordinators to develop, communicate and implement the trans--‐ disciplinary skills and understandings that foster in students the abilities to learn independently

Breakdown of specific responsibilities

Professional Development, Learning and Evaluation

The Teaching and Learning Coordinator will:

? Keep a record of all Secondary School staff professional development training

? Coordinate all Secondary School professional development opportunities, working with the programme coordinators for IB training, and acting directly as the school representative for EARCOS, ACAMIS and other non--‐IB training providers

? Coordinate the provision of in--‐house professional development including coaching, peer support, Weekend Workshops and Skill Share sessions

? Provide goal setting, monitoring and, through the librarian and the Heads of Learning Support and ESL, support, to Secondary School teachers

? Lead and support Secondary School teachers through the performance review and evaluation process

The Written Curriculum

The Teaching and Learning Coordinator will work with the programme coordinators under the guidance of the vice--‐principal to:

? Ensure that the written curriculum is aligned with the requirement of the IB programmes, specifically those related to horizontal articulation or the progression of ‘learning how to learn’ skills

? Ensure the recording and on--‐going access to supporting resources that promote good pedagogic practice

The Taught Curriculum

In conjunction of the Programme Coordinators, and in supervision of the Heads of ESL and Learning Support and the TESMC and Technology Coaches ensure that teaching:

? Incorporates differentiation for students’ learning needs and styles

? Addresses the IB Learner Profile attributes

? Uses a range of teaching strategies / methods

? Engages students as inquirers and thinkers

? Reflects an understanding of the different ways in which students learn and allows students to develop an awareness of their own learning styles

? Creates a stimulating learning environment in which students are active participants in their learning

Assessment Data

The Teaching and Learning Coordinator will work with the Heads of Learning Support and ESL to

? Coordinate standardised testing such as ISA and Probe assessments

? Ensure that school--‐wide assessment benchmark data is available to, understood and used by teachers in the continuous improvement of their teaching practices to improve student learning

? Ensure the collection, storage and analyse of data that assesses the value of school programmes

Communication

The Teacher and Learning Coordinator will:

? Coordinate the collection of sample student work into portfolios through the training, support and guidance of subject and homeroom teachers

? Provide support and guidance to teachers, students and parents for the annual Student--‐Led Conferences

? Oversee events relevant to the Teacher and Learning Coordinator role including Student Led Conferences
