Role Purpose

As the Heterogeneous Assay Development Suzhou Sub-Chapter Lead, you will be a member of the Leadership Team of the respective Assay Development & Reagents/Components Integration chapter which is part of the Core Lab Development Network of Diagnostics Solutions Research & Development.


In this position, you will be a key point of contact for Roche Diagnostics’ capabilities in assay & reagents development for heterogeneous assays in the field of cardiometabolic diseases. You will evolve the Sub-Chapter’s overarching expertise based on current and upcoming needs to deliver on network priorities (e.g. upcoming portfolio investments with new technology skills needed).


You will be responsible to excel in developing the capabilities of Sub-Chapter members specialized in heterogeneous assay development in the field of cardiometabolic diseases, including their skills in translation of patient and customer needs into the product design and development, implementation of IVD requirements, driving product care solutions and supporting the overall life cycle of commercialized products. As a line manager of Sub-Chapter members, you will be responsible for designing and optimizing Sub-Chapter members’ personal professional journey, coaching your direct reports and liaising with the other Assay & Reagents Development (Sub)-Chapters and their (Sub)-Chapter Leads. Furthermore, you will have the responsibility to maintain and develop all assets associated with the (Sub)-Chapter, such as IP, product standards, tools etc.


You will partner primarily with the Assay Development Chapter Lead(s) within the Core Lab Development Network, the other Sub-Chapter Leads as well as with other Assay & Reagents Development Chapter Leads for the different Customer Area Development Networks within R&D. These interactions are intended to support bringing the right capabilities and expertise to the efforts & squads to deliver across Networks’ priorities (who organize around business value). You will play a key role in crafting and implementing key aspects of R&D’s mid- to long-term strategy and ultimately contribute to the overall Roche Diagnostics Vision.


You will be responsible to...

Ensure that Roche Diagnostics’ capabilities in Heterogeneous Assay Development capability thrive:

Leverage a consolidated view of the (Sub)-Chapter’s capabilities to represent the most senior level of specialized expertise in assay & reagent development towards Business and other Functions

Define the short and long term capability needs for the (Sub)-Chapter to deliver on the Function’s and Network’s strategy, and execute on it, ultimately advancing the Function’s expertise and helping our Customer Areas and LCT’s to achieve their business objectives

Establish and further develop best practices and thought leadership for all aspects pertaining to assay & reagent development in the field of heterogeneous assays for cardiometabolic diseases

Maintain and develop all assets and partnerships related to Assay & Reagent Development that are owned by Roche Diagnostics.

Maintain all necessary measures for achieving a full right to operate status within the Sub-Chapter, nurture an engrained quality culture and ensure safety and environmental aspects are considered in the operations


Be an active coach and mentor to members of the Sub-Chapter to help them grow and progress in their career

Nurture and develop an empowered, knowledgeable, effective, efficient group of subject matter experts (SMEs) within the Sub-Chapter with the capabilities to support Roche Diagnostics’ efforts with best-in-class expertise

Ensure that personal professional development is a top line priority in assignments of Sub-Chapter members and spread awareness for this priority

Design and promote personal professional journey paths within the Sub-Chapter, enabling the fluidity of resources intended by our New Ways of Working


Support access to the right resources

  • Work closely with Core Lab Development Network, the Functional Partner(s) in e.g. corresponding Lifecycle Teams or Clinical Development & Medical Affairsfor Cardiometabolic portfolio as well as with other Heterogeneous Assay & Reagent Development Sub-Chapters to identify and translate strategic direction to capability needs

  • Support Network Leads within R&D to allocate the right resources to the right efforts, e.g. either to support squad staffing or provide functional expertise to support decision making in Decision Making bodies

  • Contribute to resource fluidity and capability building across Assay & Reagent Development (Sub)-Chapter Leads in other Development Networks

What else do you have in your toolbox:

  • High degree of subject matter expertise:

    • Advanced degree (PhD) in life sciences or related fields.

    • 6+ years of experience in the diagnostics industry or a related field in business related functions

    • Deep / broad knowledge in heterogeneous assays, assay development, reagent integration and process/technology transfer as well as understanding of the In-Vitro-Diagnostics industry and respective development processes

    • Proves deep knowledge and thought leadership on all aspects relevant to assay & reagent development in the field of cardiometabolic diseases

    • Demonstrates courage, vision and drive to be at the forefront of innovative change

    • Strong track record of building and nurturing capabilities such as assay/reagent development, reagent integration process/technology transfer, etc. in the field of heterogeneous assays as well as of building and maintaining relationships, interfaces and project delivery with strategic partners

  • Leadership and people development:

    • Proven ability to lead with creative attitude, very high self-awareness and being a coach and a mentor to other leaders and partners

    • Demonstrates the ability to build networks and can inspire to work agile

    • Empathy towards the needs of Squads and others (Sub)-Chapters combined with skill of prioritizing resource involvement

  • Demonstrated success in establishing a high performing environment with an excellent reputation attracting the best talent, developing and inspiring them

  • Experience defining career progression and development capabilities for assay & reagent development in networked organization

  • Senior management skills

    • Previous experience in managing areas relevant to assay & reagent development

    • Able to foster positive partnerships through effective influencing, negotiation and conflict management skills
